EPCOT Built a Cheese Museum (And It's the Best Thing Disney Has Done in Years)
I have some news that is going to make you very happy if you are, like me, a person who has their priorities in order: EPCOT is opening a cheese exhibit.
Let me be more specific. This fall, the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival is debuting "Cheers to Cheese!" — an interactive, hands-on exhibit at CommuniCore Hall that is entirely about the history, science, and culture of cheese. It runs from September 18 through November 8, 2026, and it's included with your standard park admission. No Lightning Lane. No virtual queue. Just you, some dairy education, and presumably a lot of samples.
Disney describes it as a "brand-new, hands-on exhibit delving into the history of this dairy staple" with "fun trivia and interactive elements." That's corporate speak for: they're finally giving the people what they want.
The Timing Is Impeccable
2026 has been an absolute barn-burner of a year for cheese. We had the Neal's Yard Dairy cheddar heist — 24 tons of award-winning cheddar, vanished into thin air, still out there somewhere aging beautifully in a criminal's basement. We had the rise of mine-aged cheese and Casu Marzu discourse. Cooper's Hill cheese rolling continued its millennia-old tradition of breaking Australian tourists' ankles. And now Disney — Disney — is getting in on the act.
The mouse has noticed that cheese is having a moment, and they're smart enough to ride the curd wave.
What We Know So Far
Details are still emerging, but the early reports suggest this isn't your dad's "here's a photo of a cow" exhibit. We're talking interactive elements — touchscreens, tasting guides, possibly a cheese-aging aroma station (I'm guessing on that last one, but a man can dream). It's set up in CommuniCore Hall, which is the new festival hub space that replaced the old Innoventions area, so it's got real estate that actually gets foot traffic.
WDW News Today reports that the exhibit will explore cheese history, production methods, and regional varieties — basically a Wine Bar George level of education, but for the solid stuff. Given EPCOT's original mission of showcasing global culture and innovation, a cheese exhibit is arguably more thematically appropriate than half the pavilions. Cheese is culture. Cheese is science. Cheese is civilization's greatest edible achievement, and I will die on this hill.
Why This Matters
Look, I know theme park purists are going to grumble. "EPCOT used to be about future technologies and world unity!" Yes, and the world of the future includes really good cheese. The old EPCOT had an exhibit where you could design a car. The new EPCOT has an exhibit where you can learn why Parmigiano-Reggiano costs $30 a pound. Progress.
More seriously, this is Disney acknowledging that Food & Wine isn't just a side hustle anymore — it's the main draw for a huge chunk of their audience. People don't go to EPCOT in the fall to ride Test Track for the 47th time. They go to eat and drink their way around the world. Adding a dedicated cheese experience to that lineup isn't just smart marketing; it's a sign that Disney understands its audience.
So mark your calendars, book your flights, and prepare to spend September through November standing in a hall learning about rennet and aging caves. I'll see you at CommuniCore Hall. I'll be the one asking too many questions about the washed-rind section.
